The Wawa Mustangs took a road trip to Sault Ste. Marie this past weekend to take part in three exhibition games. The first game Saturday morning saw the team up against the Teal Tornados. The Mustangs started out at a slow pace but quickly picked up speed and walked away with a 4-0 win. Hardest worker for the game was Alana Mackenzie. The second game Saturday afternoon had the Mustangs meet up with Purple Lightening. Both teams battled throughout the three periods with some good passing, and skill. The Mustangs ended up the winners in the end with a score of 5-3. Hardest worker for the game was Marguerite Bouffard. Sunday morning the same two teams hit the ice bright and early. Both teams came out flying and a good battle was on. It was a nail bitter of a game right until the last minute! The Purple Lightning handed the Mustangs their first loss of the season with a score of 3-2. Hardest worker for the game was Amelia Carruthers. The Wawa Mustangs are in their second year of operation. 17 girls come out to practice twice a week under the coaching direction of Scott Carruthers, Raymond Chevrier, Scott Davidson, Chris Simon, and Lindsay Robinson. Trainers for the team are Troy Dereski and Sherri Egan. The team is co-managed by Ruth Davidson and Danette Mathias. The team will take part in the Wawa Winter Carnival parade this Friday and encourage all Wawa residents to come out and enjoy the parade. Go Mustangs Go!
