https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvtZaRx8Ls8&feature=youtu.be Local musician (SSM) Tianna Legacy is once again using her voice to spread awareness for anti-bullying campaigns across the country. Legacy, a Grade 7 student at Holy Family Catholic Elementary School, has composed the music and lyrics to her most recently recorded professional track, ‘Standing Alone.’ The song, which features the 13-year-old student singing and playing guitar, centers on the issues of self-esteem, self-worth, and persevering through tough times. “Last year, I was blown away by the response I got from my first song, ‘Who We Are.’ I wrote it after being inspired by the Family Channel’s “Stand Up To Bullying’ campaign,” said Legacy. “This year, I’m excited to share something new that centers on the same issue, but with a more mature theme.” Last year, Legacy’s ‘Who We Are’ received national recognition from the Family Channel as well as from OWL Magazine. The accompanying music video for her song garnered thousands of online views in a relatively short time frame. Holy Family Catholic School, like many other schools in the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board (HSCDSB), participate in “Pink Shirt Day,” a nation-wide effort to raise awareness on the issue of bullying. Holy Family is also one of several schools that dons pink every Wednesday of the school year to keep the issue of bullying at the visual forefront and to promote their belief in standing up, speaking out, being a friend, telling an adult and putting an end to bullying. This year, Legacy performed her new song, ‘Standing Alone’, live for her peers during the kick-off to Holy Family’s anti-bullying campaign. She also performed ‘Who We Are’, along with other songs. The performance was enjoyed by the entire student body, along with parents, teaching staff, and community friends. Legacy cites Beth West, a teacher at Holy Family, as a key supporter in helping to spread her music across the globe. She also credits the staff at Case’s Music, including Jay Case, Jenny Gauvreau, Craig West, Jake Rendell and Liz Alloi, as being instrumental to her development as a musician. Legacy is also part of an all-girl group, The Frantic Young, which has performed at various venues across the city. Legacy’s new song, ‘Standing Alone’, can be found at her official Tianna Legacy YouTube channel, while the original video for ‘Who We Are’ is available through the HSCDSB’s official YouTube channel.
