Highway 17B has been reopened. The highway had been closed due to a fatal two vehicle collision since 10:43 p.m. Friday night, approximately 9 hours.
11:15 p.m. – Sault Ste. Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police advise of the following Road Closure:
Highway 17B in Garden River First Nation between Hwy 17 in Sault Ste. Marie and Highway 638 in Echo Bay.
The OPP have initiated a closure of Highway 17B in Garden River First Nation due to a two vehicle collision. Emergency Services and Police Collision Investigators are on scene.
11:09 p.m. – There are detours in place for traffic to go around the collision scene. Detours are at #Hwy17 & #Hwy17B on the west side (Sault Ste. Marie) and #Hwy17B & #Hwy638 on the east side (Echo Bay).
10:43 p.m. – SaultOnline has received a report of a serious collision between two vehicles on Highway 17B between Sweet Grass Road and Echo River Road in the Squirrel Island area. OPP are diverting traffic. Please use caution if transiting the area or choose an alternate route if possible to avoid emergency responders.
