MP Sheehan announces FedNor funding for Superior East Community Development Corporation

Member of Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie Terry Sheehan was in Wawa yesterday to announce the investment of $1,600,000 in support of small business development and growth in the region that includes Wawa, Dubreuilville, White River and Chapleau. He made the presentation at North of 17. Mayor Ron Rody (Wawa) and Mayor Angelo Bazzoni (White River) were in attendance.

Based in Wawa, the Superior East Community Development Corporation is one of 24 Community Futures Development Corporations (CFDCs) funded by FedNor to serve Northern Ontario businesses and communities. The Superior East CFDC serves the communities of Dubreuilville, Chapleau, Wawa, White River, and First Nations located in the Superior East Region, by offering small business loans and counselling and also assists in regional economic development.

Minister Navdeep Bains (responsible for FedNor), said in a press release, “The Superior East Community Futures Development Corporation has a long track record of helping grow the local economy, one small business at a time. The Government of Canada is proud to assist this dedicated, community-focused organization in its efforts to strengthen the regional economy and create jobs that will benefit area businesses and residents alike.”

Member of Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie, Terry Sheehan who made the announcement in Wawa stated, “We welcome the Government of Canada’s continued support which enables us to keep working hard with businesses and entrepreneurs in the area and to champion regional economic diversification and development initiatives that will pay dividends now and into the future.”
