Spring is here, and so are the bears. White River is, as is many northern Ontario communities anticipating bears in the community. Wawa has been reporting bears visiting and looking for food for the past three weeks.
White River is hoping to avoid bear encounters and conflicts by reducing the amount of available food “garbage”. Residents will not be permitted to put their garbage cans out before 6 a.m. on garbage pickup day which is Wednesday. Residents are also asked to consider freezing meats/fish etc before putting them into their garbage cans – avoiding an attractive smell for the bears and secure containers. The waste disposal site is also open every other day if necessary.
