Recycling is now accepted at Havilland Waste Disposal Site again during its hours of operations. It is open Wednesday, Saturday & Sunday 10 am – 5 pm (closed on major Holidays).
Since the announcement was made, and recycling restarted yesterday, there have been many enquiries about when it will start in the other LSB areas in Sault North (Searchmont, Aweres, & Batchawana). The process for approvals has been completed by the Aweres Local Services Board and they will finalize the requirements by including the cost in the next budget in the Fall to be able to start up and pay for the service. Batchawana LSB voted against recycling, and Searchmont LSB has yet to bring the issue to their taxpayers. Any updates can be obtained through your Local Services Board.
May 9, 2016 @ 14:06 – The residents of the townships that make up the Local Services Board of Goulais and District voted to take on recycling and pay for it through their taxes and it starts today!
Previously recycling was paid for through the efforts of Sault North Waste Management Council for a period of six years. Funding to continue it was no longer available, and recycling in Sault North ceased at the end of May 2015.
Now that the cost is supported by the tax base, recycling is back on and the Contractor (GT Waste System) is starting today, picking up cardboard in Areas 1, 2, and 3 this week. As before, the material being picked up will alternate weekly. This week is cardboard, next week will be aluminum, tin cans, and # 1 and #2 plastics.
Congratulations and heartfelt thanks from Sault North Waste Management Council to the residents of Goulais.
