MALE CHARGED – DRIVE SUSPENDED

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On May 22, 2016, Members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties in the City of Elliot Lake.

At 12:44 p.m., police observed a northbound vehicle on Ontario Avenue.  A traffic stop was initiated.  As a result of the investigation the driver was found to be suspended.

Gerard CHIASSON, 88 years of age, from Elliot Lake, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Driving While Under Suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (X2); and
  • Fail to Surrender Suspended Licence to Ministry, contrary to section (35)(1) of the Highway Traffic Act; and
  • Fail to Surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle, contrary to section 7(5)(a) of the Highway Traffic Act; and
  • Fail to Notify Change of Address, contrary to section 9(2) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on July 20, 2016.

DRIVER CHARGED WITH INSECURE LOAD

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On May 22, 2016, Members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties in the City of Elliot Lake.

At 5:00 p.m., policed observed a vehicle on Bennett Drive, dragging a pole with a concrete block. A traffic stop was initiated.

Dennis MILLER, 80 years of age, from Elliot Lake, Ontario, was issued a Provincial Offence Notice and charged with:

  • Insecure Load, contrary to section 111(2) of the Highway Traffic Act.

SPEEDER CHARGED WITH DRUG OFFENCE

(PLUMMER ADDITIONAL TOWNSHIP, ON) – On May 21, 2016, Members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Highway 17.

At 9:00 a.m., police observed a vehicle on Highway 17 travelling at a high rate of speed.    A traffic stop was initiated.  As a result of the investigation, it was determined that there was Cannabis Marihuana in the vehicle.

Mark David KNIGHT, 29 years of age, from ORLEANS, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marihuana – Under 30 grams, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances  Act; and
  • Speeding contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on July 7, 2016.

OWNER CHARGED – NO INSURANCE

(TOWNSHIP OF THE NORTH SHORE, ON) – On May 20, 2016, Members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Highway 17.

At 2:26 p.m., police observed a vehicle on Highway 17. A traffic stop was initiated.  As a result of the investigation the vehicle was found not to be insured.

Randolph David JACOBS, 46 years of age, from Serpent River First Nation, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Permit Motor Vehicle to be Operated without Insurance, contrary to section 2(1)(b) of the Compulsory Automobile Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on July 6, 2016.
