July 8 through 10 is shaping up to be a fantastic weekend of music, art and memory making fun. On Friday, July 8th, from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM we will be opening the festival at the Lion’s Waterfront Park; free to the community, there will be live music from local musicians. You’ll also have the opportunity to purchase your $25.00 weekend pass and festival related merchandise. After 5:00 PM, we’ll be kicking things off with our artist meet and greet at the Lakeview Hotel (Woody’s Pub), weekend pass and day pass holders are welcome! From 5:00 PM until 1:30 AM, there will be non-stop music from a mix of both local and traveling musicians like the Bats in the Belfry, Pat Maloney and Smokies & the Bear.
Down the road at the Community Centre, the music gets turned up at 8:00 PM; with a mix of folk, rock and country, there’s something for everyone! The Wild Iris, a progressive rock band from Sault Ste. Maire, ON, will be closing out the night with tunes that are bound to get even the “two left footers” up and dancing.
For your listening pleasure; we’ve added a third main-stage to our roster for both evenings. If you’re looking for a cozy place to take in some singer/songwriter music in a variety of genres, come in to the Legion Club Room to listen to the musical stylings of Rusty McCarthy, Jean-Yves Morin and Damjam, among others!
On Saturday, July 9th from 11:00 AM-5:00 PM we’ll be shutting down a portion of Broadway Avenue for our street fair, which is also a free community event. Of course, we’ll have tons of music for your listening pleasure but we’ll also have games, face painting and so much more for the kids, BBQ’s, art/crafts vendors and so much more! The Legion will be hosting a Mexican themed beer garden out front..we’ve heard rumblings of Margaritas! YUM!
Saturday evening is going to be packed with more music than you’ll know what to do with! Music begins at 8:00 PM at all three venues; the Community Centre, Lakeview Hotel (Woody’s Pub) and the Legion Club Room all have amazing sets planned. I feel sorry for you, I really do… It’ll be difficult to decide where to go! Closing out the night at the Lakeview will be powerful blues artist Moa Blücher; the Michipicoten Memorial Community Centre will host the hard rocking Blackwood Sinners from Sudbury, ON!
The Legion Club Room will play host to something a little different for the Festival this year; rounding out the night, we’ll have DJ Kilotile and DJ Jamesy cater to those looking for an EDM end to the night.
As if that wasn’t enough, on Sunday, July 10th from 9:00 AM-2:00 PM we’ll also be hosting a free community Wellness Day at the Lion’s Waterfront Park. Plans are being made to host Meditation, Yoga, and Mobile Massage (facilitators may charge a nominal fee for their services); in addition, we may have traditional Native Drumming/Singing, and Interactive Dance. The live music will start around 11:00 AM and we invite non-motorized water sport enthusiasts (kayak, canoe, SUP, etc.) to meet up at the shoreline for a paddle set to music!
At 2:00 PM, join us at Woody’s Pub for a few hours to enjoy even more music as we wind down the festival and say farewell to the 3rd Annual Wawa Music Festival.
Along with some of the artists listed above; we’ll be hosting several local and regional favourites like Don Charbonneau, Whiskey Jill, Paula Valois, The Rodger’s, and so many others!
Weekend Passes are only $25.00 and will be available for sale at Woody’s Pub, The Red Canoe Gallery and Young’s General Store. Day passes are also available for $15.00, they can be purchased at the door of all three venues. We suggest springing for the weekend pass, it’s a great deal!
