OPP CHARGED MALE WITH OVER 80

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On June 15, 2016, at 8:09 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 108, north of the City of Elliot Lake.

Police observed a southbound vehicle that matched the description provided by the complainant. A traffic stop was initiated. The officer determined the driver had been consuming alcohol and the driver was arrested.

Wilbert HEBERT, 57 years of age, from Elliot Lake, Ontario, was charged with: Operate Motor Vehicle Over 80 milligrams, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on August 2, 2016.

SIXTEEN YEAR OLD MALE CHARGED

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On July 15, 2016, at 10:21 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for service of a male who had rummaged through an unlocked vehicle on Jobin Road, in the City of Elliot Lake and had taken some items from the vehicle.

A second call to police, advised that a young male was attempting to break into a vehicle. The suspect was being chased by a male. Further, that the suspect was detained by the other male on Roman Avenue and waited for police to arrive..

A 16 year male, from Elliot Lake, Ontario, was arrested and charged with:

Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code; and
Trespassing at Night, contrary to section 177 of the Criminal Code.
The accused is schedule to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on August 2, 2016.

MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION – FEMALE CHARGED WITH CARELESS 

(THESSALON, ON) – On June 15, 2016, at 2:21 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a two vehicle motor collision on Highway 17, east of the Town of Thessalon.

A westbound passenger vehicle crossed the centre line into the path of an eastbound cube van that was towing a trailer.  The westbound vehicle collided with the cube van’s trailer. The impact caused the cube van and trailer to flip over onto their roofs.

The highway was closed for approximately one hour and reduced to one lane.  Both drivers and the cube van’s passenger were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. All vehicles were towed.

Eileen VIAU, 68 years of age, from North Bay, Ontario, was issued a provincial offence notice and charged with: Careless Driving, contrary to section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act.
