Wawa Black Fly Run

It was a hot morning with only a few black flies out as runners got ready for the marathon of their choice. Runners participated in stretching and warm up exercises outside in the Michipicoten Memorial Community Centre parking lot. A few minutes after 8 a.m. the first set of runners, the Half Marathoner’s took off. Half an hour later the 5km and 10km left.

Medals-IMG_015651 minutes later the first runner arrived at the finish line – Stan Trudeau had completed the 5km run in 21 minutes  and 21.76 seconds. Runners came from all over Ontario (Marathon, Chapleau, Thunder Bay, Terrace Bay, Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie, Peterborough, Dubreuilville, and Oakville) to participate. There were 88 runners in the 5K, 43 in the 10K, and 18 in the Half Marathon; a total of 149 runners.

By 10:30 all the runners were back enjoying a snack of fresh fruit, water and lemonade.

Later that afternoon, a barbecue was held for all the volunteers to thank them for their help in making the event run smoothly.
