Collision Closes Hwy 101 for Short Time Sunday Evening – Traffic Delays Expected

Emergency personnel at the scene of the vehicle collision just east of the Michipicoten River Bridge (Hwy 101).

A collision between two company pickups, one an Aecon Materials Engineering (AME), the other a Hydro One, sent both drivers to the Lady Dunn HealtCentre in Wawa. The incident occurred about 30kms east of Wawa (Highway 101), on the hill/curve just before the Michipicoten River Bridge.

The Aecon Materials Engineering truck in the ditch, the front driver’s wheel has been removed in the collision and is about 5 metres ahead of the truck.
The Hydro One truck looks as if it rolled over before coming to rest.

The AME pickup sustained substantial damage and was resting in the eastbound ditch. The Hydro One pickup was also in the eastbound ditch but appears to have rolled over before it came to rest. The driver of the Hydro One pickup was taken via backboard up the embankment by Algoma EMS, SE OPP, Wawa Volunteer Firefighters and Ontario MNRF Firefighters.

The highway was closed by OPP officers until both drivers were taken in the same ambulance to the hospital. Once most of the debris was cleaned off the highway by WVFD, the highway was open to one lane only. A tow truck was there at that time to take at least one of the vehicles. MyWawa expects that there will be minor traffic delays until the Hydro One truck is removed.
