East Algoma OPP Blotter – Perform Stunt, Collision, No Licence, Assault and Possession

(TOWNSHIP OF THE NORTH SHORE, ON) – On July 5, 2016, the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on regular patrol duties on Highway 17, in Township of the North Shore, east of Blind River.

Shortly after 8:00 p.m., police observed a westbound vehicle travelling at over 50 kilometres over the posted 90 kilometre zone.  A traffic stop was initiated.

As a result, Jian WU, 63 years of age, from Fredericton, New Brunswick, was charged with:

  • Drive Motor Vehicle -Perform Stunt, contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act. His vehicle was impounded.

The accused is schedule to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on September 7, 2016.

 

MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION- MALE CHARGED

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On July 4, 2016 at 2:20 p.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 108 involving two vehicles in the City of Elliot Lake. A vehicle had failed to yield when entering onto Highway 108.

As a result of the investigation, Robert ZAHER, 81 years of age from Elliot Lake, Ontario was issued a provincial offence notice and charged with:

  • Fail to yield from Private Road, contrary to section 139(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

 

FEMALE CHARGED NO LICENCE

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On July 4, 2016, the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on regular patrol duties in the City of Elliot Lake.

At 9:24 p.m., police observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 108. A traffic stop was initiated. Investigation revealed the driver had an expired driver’s licence from Alberta.

As a result, Karen KANTOR, 48 years old from Caroline, Alberta, was issued a provincial offence notice charged with:

  • Drive Motor Vehicle – No Licence, contrary to section 32(1) of the Highway Traffic Act; and
  • Speeding, contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act.

MALE CHARGED WITH ASSAULT

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On July 4, 2016, shortly after 10:00 p.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an assault in the City of Elliot Lake. A 62 year old woman was struck in the side of the head by her husband.

As a result of the investigation, a 67 year old male from Elliot Lake, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Assault, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on August 2, 2016.

FEMALE CHARGED WITH POSSESSION

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On July 5, 2016, the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on regular patrol duties in the City of Elliot Lake.

Police observed a male and female at a local restaurant. The female was on probation to have no contact with the male she was with.

Police arrested the female. As she was searched, police located a small amount of prescription drugs in pill form which she did not have a script for.

As a result, a 29 year old female from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code; and
  • Possession of Schedule Substance – Other Drugs, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on June 6, 2016.
