It was a busy afternoon for officers of the Superior East OPP – Wawa Detachment and Algoma EMS. There were two collisions this afternoon, one in early afternoon 20 kilometres north of Wawa and the other 3 hours later 80 kilometres south of Wawa.
The first collision was a pickup with two dirtbikes in the back. The vehicle left the roadway, and appears to have rolled, before coming to rest on the passenger side. The driver and passenger were taken to Lady Dunn Health Centre.
The second collision was just around the corner (north) from the Agawa Pictograph Road around 4:30 p.m. The southbound vehicle appears to have stayed on the roadway, but broke a number of guard posts before stopping. The driver was taken to Lady Dunn Health Centre. An unknown male was observed assisting EMS personnel. Lake Superior Provincial Park employees assisted at the scene with traffic control, moving items from the car to what may have been an accompanying vehicle.
In both collisions only minor traffic delays occurred, because only one lane was closed while the injured parties were evaluated and taken to the Lady Dunn Health Centre. There may have been a slightly longer delay while the vehicles were towed, but not for long enough that the highway was officially closed.
