(SPANISH, ON)- On Saturday July 30, 2016, shortly after 6:00 a.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to motor vehicle collision involving three vehicles on Highway 17 in the Town of Spanish. Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Sable Spanish Shores Fire Department and Spanish Fire Department also attended the scene.
Investigation revealed that a car travelling westbound on Highway 17 crossed the centre line, colliding with an eastbound vehicle towing a trailer and continued on in the eastbound lane and collided with a tractor trailer.
The 16 year old male driver and the 15 year old male front passenger were transported to a local hospital where they were treated and released. The rear 17 year old male rear passenger, Connor Reed PELLETIER-COMMANDA, received serious injuries and was transported to Sudbury where he later succumbed to his injuries on July 31, 2016. All three males were from Serpent River First Nation.
The 17 year male rear passenger was the only occupant not wearing his seatbelt. The investigation remains ongoing at this time with the assistance of OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigator (TTCI).
