Grumman Widgeon stops in Wawa

This 1942 Grumman Widgeon G-44 (serial number 1240 of  hails from Jackson County, Michigan. It seems that she stopped in for supplies and fuel at the Wawa Municipal Airport earlier today. She is a very well flown aircraft, having been photographed at Oshkosh a number of times. One notable thing is that the chief’s head from the front fuselage and the star from the rear has been removed or painted over, and the red and white stripes on the tail are now only white. In 2008, it was reported that only 74 G-44’s were still registered in the United States out of 266 built (28%), and there is only one registered in Canada.
