Commercial Vehicle Driver Charged with Improper Tires and Log Book Infractions

On August 27, 2016, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Highway 17 east of Blind River.

Shortly after 7:00 a.m., police observed a westbound commercial motor with its hazard lights on and leaving tire tread debris all over the highway. A traffic stop was initiated and officers inspected the tractor trailer. The driver’s log book was also not up to date.

As a result, Richard NICHOL, 35 years of age, from Haileybury, Ontario, was issued two provincial offence notices and charged with:

  • Improper Tires-Commercial Motor Vehicle, contrary to section 70(3)(a) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA); and
  • Fail to Accurately Complete Daily Inspection Report, contrary to section 107(5) of the HTA.
