Traffic Stop results in Charges for Young Driver


On August 26, 2016, shortly after 10:30 a.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of a suspicious vehicle travelling eastbound on Highway 17 west of the Town of Bruce Mines.

A traffic stop was initiated on Highway 17 near the Town of Thessalon. An investigation revealed the female driver was a G1 driver and not in the company of qualified driver. She also could not produce a permit for the vehicle she was driving.

As a result, Courtney NOBLE, 19 years of age from Aweres Township, Ontario, was issued two provincial offence notices and charged with:

  • Class G1 Licence Holder-Unaccompanied by Qualified Driver, contrary to section 5(1) of Ontario Regulations 340/94 of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA); and
  • Fail to Surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle, contrary to section 7(5)(a) of the HTA.
