On October 9, 2016, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrol duties in the Town of Blind River.
Shortly after 6:30 p.m., police observed an eastbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Causley Street. A traffic stop was initiated. Investigation revealed the driver did not have his licence on his person and did not have a permit for his vehicle.
As a result, Yi ZHAO, 33 years of age from Hannon, Ontario, was charged with:
- Drive Motor Vehicle While Performing Stunt – +50 km/hr in a posted 50 km/hr zone, contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA);
- Drive Motor Vehicle-No Permit, contrary to section 7(1)(a) of the HTA; and
- Driver Fail to Surrender Licence, contrary to section 33(1) of the HTA.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on December 7, 2016.
