After an overwhelming response to the loss of the Lafromboise Children’s Perch Derby, a newly formed Club has offered to breathe new life into the event for the children and families of Algoma this coming March 12th. The Algoma Fish and Game Club, formed in May is a strong advocate for conservation and promoter of family outdoor activities. Mr. Rob Lafromboise is a founding member of the Club and is happy to see an enthusiastic group of volunteers stepping up to once again bring this successful event to the families of the Algoma District.
While the Children’s’ Perch Derby is a major focus of the Club, they have also already been working with the MNRF to promote conservation, improve angling and hunting opportunities and advocate for better access to outdoor sporting. The Algoma Fish and Game Club has hosted a competitive Walleye Derby last summer and has plans to similar events in the future including a Multi-Species Family Derby next summer.
To support these efforts the Algoma Fish and Game Club will be hosting a fundraiser “Camo & Games Night” on Nov 25th at 7:30 pm at the Garden River Community Centre. Tickets include music by DJ and transportation from Wellington Square mall, a Cash Bar, food and Games will be available. For tickets, please call Yvon Gallant, AFGC Fundraising Director at 705-257-7520.
With over 50 members already registered, the Algoma Fish and Game Club has been actively working towards member identified goals. If you would like to have input in their efforts, or have time to volunteer to add to the team your feedback is welcome at [email protected] and find us on Facebook.
