A new chairperson and vice-chair have been selected for the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board’s (HSCDSB) Board of Trustees. John Caputo will now sit as Chairperson, and Gary Trembinski will now serve as Vice-Chair. Both were voted into their respective positions Wednesday night during the monthly board meeting at the Catholic Education Centre.
Caputo has been a trustee since the inception of the HSCDSB in 1998 and most recently served as Vice-Chair for the past two years.
‘‘I’d like to thank those who have shown their confidence in me. I am a passionate advocate of Catholic education, and this Board, which I feel is a leader in the province when it comes to implementing education initiatives,” said Caputo.
“We have a big year ahead of us as we work toward the process of selecting a new Director of Education. One of my goals while I sit as chair will be to visit all schools in the Board. I feel this will give me better insights into the day-to-day workings of our schools,” added Caputo.
As a veteran trustee, Caputo has served on numerous committees within the Board. He has also been active with regional, provincial, and national Catholic trustees associations.
Trembinski, in his first term as an HSCDSB trustee, was very appreciative of the support shown to him by his colleagues.
“I am excited to take on this new role. I take this appointment very, very seriously. Similar to Chair Caputo, I look forward to visiting all of our schools to get a first-hand look at what Catholic education offers our students,” said Trembinski.
Trembinski is also the new Chair of the Board’s Special Education Advisory Committee. He spent the past two years on the Supervised Alternative Learning Committee.
Outgoing Chair Leslie Cassidy-Amadio thanked all board employees for their support during her two-year term.
