MALE CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED

(THESSALON, ON)  On December 12, 2016 shortly before midnight the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a complaint regarding a male that had been driving a motor vehicle and was under the influence of alcohol.

As a result of the investigation, Kenneth Edward GREER, 55 years of age, from Thessalon, Ontario, was arrested and charged with:

  • Care and Control While Impaired (Alcohol), contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code;
  • Care or Control over 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River, on January 5, 2017.

 

FEMALE CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED

(DESBARATS, ON) – On December 12, 2016 shortly after 4:00 pm the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a complaint regarding a collision at the Junction of Government Road and Lake Huron Drive.  The collision involved a motorized snow vehicle that entered the ditch on Government Road.

As a result of the investigation, Heather McKEDDIE, 36 years of age, from Desbarats, Ontario, was arrested and charged with:

  • Driving While Ability Impaired – Motor Vehicle (Alcohol), contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code;
  • Driving With More Than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River, on January 23, 2017.

 

MAN STEALING GROCERIES ASSAULTS STORE OWNER

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On December 10, 2016, at 5:02 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a theft in progress call at a local grocery store in Elliot Lake.

The owner of the grocery store intercepted the man at the doorway, who was leaving the store with a full cart of groceries.  An altercation took place between the man and the store owner and the man fled on foot.  A witness followed the man and notified police when he got into a car along Highway 108.  Police located the vehicle on Hillside Drive South and conducted a traffic stop.  Police recognized the man to be the same person who had stolen a cart full of groceries on December 8, 2016.

Jan Rene WILEN, 43 years of age, of Elliot Lake, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Theft Under $5000 (two counts), contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code (CC)
    Assault, contrary to section 266 of the CC

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake, Ontario on February 7, 2017.

 

SUSPENDED DRIVER CHARGED

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On December 10, 2016, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Causley Street in the Town of Blind River.

Shortly after 2:00 a.m., police were advised of a traffic complaint and the vehicle had entered the parking lot of a local coffee shop.  A traffic stop was initiated.  Investigation determined the driver was suspended.

As a result, Shawn CHERRY, 29 years of age, from Powassan, Ontario, was charged with:

Driving While Under Suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on February 15, 2017.

 

DRIVER CHARGED WITH CARELESS

(TOWNSHIP OF THE NORTH SHORE, ON) – On December 8, 2016, shortly after 5:00 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of a westbound vehicle all over the road on Highway 17, near the village of Spragge.

Minutes later, police were then advised the westbound vehicle had now gone into the ditch.  Police attended the scene.  The driver of the westbound was not injured and no damage to the vehicle.

As a result, Joseph HUMPHRIES, 26 years of age, from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, was issued a provincial offence notice and charged with:

  • Careless Driving, contrary to section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA);

  1. What a pathetic loser. Jan R Wilen was just arrested for multiple drug charges as well. He will go away forba long time hopefully. He walked out on his 2 beautiful children at 1 and 3yrs old and left his wife of 18yrs as well because drugs are more fun. Feeling sorry for a deadbeat like him just puts you in the same category. Before you comment about feeling sorry for him…you best know about the person first.
