On December 27, 2016 shortly after 2:00 p.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a disturbance at a residence located in Little Rapids, Ontario involving an edged weapon.
When police arrived, they located a 70 year old male inside the residence who had sustained serious injuries. He was transported by Algoma District Paramedic Services to a local hospital where he continues to be treated for life-threatening injuries. A second victim, a 51 year old male, was also assaulted during the altercation but did not sustain any injuries. This was an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety at this time.
As a result of the investigation, Samuel BOILEAU, 26 years old, of Little Rapids, Ontario is charged with:
- Attempt to Commit Murder, contrary to section 239(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada
- Assault with a Weapon (X2), contrary to section 267(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
The accused is scheduled to appear in court on December 28, 2016.
The East Algoma OPP, East Algoma OPP Crime Unit and the OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS), under the direction of Detective Staff Sergeant Tina Chalk of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), are continuing the investigation.
