Once again Wawa residents opened their hearts and pocketbooks to help make those in our community who are less fortunate – enjoy a wonderful Christmas. Thanks to the hard work of Carol at the Bargain Shop, who once again organized the Christmas Hamper Toy Fund, many toys and gift items were donated.
This year, however, she raised the bar. She organized a ‘stuff-a-cruiser’ with the help of the Superior East OPP Detachment – Wawa, and with help of the Wawa Volunteer Fire Department and Algoma EMS, Santa, Mrs. Claus and two elves were ushered into the store where Marcus Grundt of Superior Image was waiting to capture their faces with the children. During the event, Carol reminded shoppers that there was coffee and cookies for everyone.
While outside, a toll-booth had begun with a collection being taken up for the purchase of toys and gift items.
It was great fun watching the firefighters shopping for gifts. So much was donated that in fact, ‘stuff-a-cruiser’ became ‘stuff-two-cruisers’!
By the end of the event, over $4,000 in merchandise was donated to the Wawa Christmas Hamper Fund, and $240 was raised in photographs for donation to the Wawa Food Bank in the New Year.
The weather was bright and shiny, and there were many smiles as this event was great fun for all. As a special thank you to all who helped, Carol and her helpers handed out a box of chocolates to all!
