On December 31, 2016, shortly after 9:00 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Highway west of the Town of Spanish.
Police observed a vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. When speaking with the driver, the officer observed open liquor in the vehicle and determined the driver had been consuming alcohol.
As a result, Dylan PELLETIER, 33 years of age, from Serpent River First Nation, Ontario, was charged with:
- Driving While Ability Impaired-Motor Vehicle, contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code;
- Driving with More than 80 milligrams of Alcohol in Blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b);
- Possession of a Schedule II Substance-Cannabis Marihuana-Under 30 grams; and
- Driving Motor Vehicle with Liquor Readily Available, contrary to section 32(1) of the Liquor Licence Act.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on February 9, 2017.
