Weather – Periods of snow ending near midnight then cloudy with 40 percent chance of flurries. Local amount 2 to 4 cm. Low minus 18.

Roads – From the Sault to Montreal River, Highway 17 is bare and dry with bare and wet sections. That changes from Montreal River to the Paint Lake Road with bare and wet with snow-covered sections. From there to White River is bare and wet road with partly snow covered sections.

Local – Michipicoten First Nation is beginning their elections process for Chief and Council for the 2017-19 term.  For the position of Chief, the following have been nominated: Irene Armstrong, John Bobbiwash, Ernie Lewis, Linda Peterson, Evelyn Stone, Pat Tangie and Joe Buckell. For Council, the following have been nominated – Ivan Andre, Verna Andre, Daniel Black, J. Bobbiwash, Wanita Chapman, John P. Chalykoff. Denise Churchill, Sandra Day, Janet Demary, Chad Edgar, Don Humphries, Brian Jacques, Leona Leroux, Christine Lewis, Laverne Lewis, Jerry Lewis, Marcel Lewis, Dan Perrault, Linda P, David Robinson, Verlyn Robinson, Chris Simon, Evelyn Stone, Melanie Stone, Robert Stone, Tasha Stone-Perron, Myrtle Swanson, Bill Swanson, William Swanson, Bruce Tangie, Lawrence Tangie and Pat Tangie.

Nominees have until 4:00 pm Thursday, February 2, 2017, to inform the Electoral Officer that the nominee allows their name to stand, and then it will be included on the ballot.
