Yesterday, January 30th, marked the final day of the recently proclaimed “Dr. Roberta Bondar Days.” Dr. Bondar has had an influential career as a medical doctor, scientist, author, photographer, and Canada’s first woman in space,” said Sheehan. “The year 2017 marks the 25th anniversary of Dr. Bondar’s historic Space flight. • The part-time faculty at Algoma university are launching a campaign to avert a strike. Part-time faculty teach almost half of all courses at Algoma University, and are the lowest paid in the province and like other contract faculty have little job security. On February 7, the part-time faculty and administration will be in conciliation, a process run by the Ministry of Labour to settle disputes before a legal strike can take place.  Algoma contract faculty are seeking wage parity with the lowest paid contract faculty in Ontario – Nipissing University. Raising wages would cost $150,000 of Algoma’s $29 million dollar budget, about .5%.
