Sex crimes on minors leads to arrest of Blind River Man

On December 1, 2017, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), and the East Algoma Crime Unit began an investigation of a sexual assault that occurred approximately 30 years ago. At the time, the sexual assault involved a 17 year old male and a 7 year old female in the Town of Blind River.

As a result of the investigation a 48 year old male from Blind River, Ontario was charged with:

* Sexual Assault, contrary to section 246.1 of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on March 2, 2017.

MALE CHARGED WITH STUNT DRIVING

(IRON BRIDGE, ON) – On January 25, 2017, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrol duties on Highway 17 in the Town of Iron Bridge.

Shortly after 11:00 p.m., police observed a westbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was initiated.

As a result, Tiago VIEIRA, 21 years of age, from Toronto, Ontario, was charged with:

* Drive Motor Vehicle-Perform Stunt-Speeding by 50 or more km/hr in a posted 60 km/hr zone, contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The driver’s licence was seized and his vehicle towed and impounded for 7 days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on March 29, 2017.

MALE CHARGED WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT

(SERPENT RIVER FIRST NATION, ON) – On January 27, 2017, shortly after 2:00 a.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a disturbance at a residence on Woodland Drive on the Territory of Serpent River First Nation.

Police attended the scene where a female disclosed she was sexually assaulted by a male on three separate occasions in the last month.

As a result, on February 2, 2017, Bradley COMMANDA, 36 years of age from Serpent River First Nation, Ontario was charged with: Sexual Assault (X3), contrary to section 271 of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on March 2, 2017.
