Male arrested for no license to operate snowmobile

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On February 11, 2017, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting Motorized Snow Vehicle (MSV) patrol on the trails in Elliot Lake.
At approximately 11:45 a.m. police stopped a snowmobile on the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) F Trail in the City of Elliot Lake.

After investigation, police learned the male did not have driver’s licence or any documentation for the snowmobile. Subsequently, the male was arrested and the snowmobile was impounded.

Daniel SHOUP, 25 years of age, of Elliot Lake, Ontario, was charged with:

Driving while Disqualified – court order X4, contrary to section 259(4) of the Criminal Code (CC)
No licence – drive upon public trail, contrary to section 9(3)(b) of the Motorized Snow Vehicle Act (MSVA)

Fail to display evidence of permit, contrary to section 2(8) of the MSVA

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake, Ontario on March 21, 2017.
