Robotics teams battle it out


Thirty-seven of the top elementary school robotics teams are competing in Mississauga the annual Ontario VEX IQ Provincial Championships.  Included in this group are eight teams from Northern Ontario, to top qualifiers in last month’s regional event held at Sault College.

After the half-time lunch break, top local teams in the 2-team Matchplay contest included the Superior Heights Intermediate “Team Witcher” in 11th, with the Holy Family “Flames”, ranked 14th, and F.H.Clergue’s “S.M.A.K” in 20th.

VEX Witcher TeamplayIn robot Skills (single robot driving and programming challenges), the Holy Family Flames sit in 3rd, with Notre Dame’s “NDS Robotics” in 10th and RM Moore’s “Megabots” in 12th, followed by “S.M.A.K.” sitting in 14th.

Matches continue until 3:30, when the Team Matchplay playoffs commence and the Robot Skills champions will be announced.

Teams are competing to earn invitations to the World Vex Robotics Championships which takes place in April in Kentucky.
