FEMALE CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED AND ASSAULT POLICE

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On February 21, 2017, shortly after 7:00 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver on the Territory of Mississauga First Nation.

Police located and stopped the vehicle on Birch Street in the Town of Blind River. The officer determined the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverage and was arrested. While police were dealing with the female driver she assaulted an officer.

As a result, Jasmine WRIGHT, 27 years of age, from Blind River, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Driving While Ability Impaired-Motor Vehicle (Alcohol) , contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Driving with More than 80 milligrams of Alcohol in Blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the CC;
  • Assault a Peace Officer, contrary to section 270(1) of the CC; and
  • Fail to Comply with Recognizance, contrary to section 145(3) of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie on February 23, 2017.

 

INTOXICATED FEMALE CHARGED

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On February 21, 2017, shortly after 7:00 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a disturbance at a residence on Brunswick Walk in the City of Elliot Lake.

A male wanted his intoxicated ex-mother-law removed from his residence. Police attended the residence and observed and intoxicated female outside the residence standing in the driveway.

As a result, Gertrude MERASTY, 46 years of age, from Edmonton, Alberta, was charged with:

  • Being Intoxicated in Public Place, contrary to section 31(4) of the Liquor Licence Act.

 

MALE INVOLVED IN TWO INCIDENTS AND CHARGED WITH SPOUSAL ASSAULT

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On February 14, 2017, shortly after 10:30 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an assault that occurred on Causley Street in the Town of Blind River.

Police learned that a male had assaulted his girlfriend while she was attempting to run from him. While police were speaking with the boyfriend, the male became irate and assaulted one of the officers.

On February 20, 2017, police learned the 42 year old male had breached his conditions by engaging in an argument with his girlfriend. Investigation determined the male had assaulted his girlfriend once more and was a suspended driver.

As a result of the investigation, a 42 year old male from Bruce Mines, Ontario was charged with:

  • Assault – Spousal (X3), contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC;
  • Assault Peace Officer, contrary to section 270(1)(a) of the CC;
  • Uttering Threats-Cause or Bodily Harm, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code;
  • Fail to Comply with Undertaking, contrary to section 145(3) of the CC; and
  • Driving While Under Suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused is schedule to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie on February 22, 2017.
