Break and Enter in progress results in male charged

(VILLENEUVE TOWNSHIP, ON)- On March 3, 2017, shortly before 2:00 p.m., members of the East Algoma Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a break and enter that had just occurred at a local Trading Post on Highway 129 in Villeneuve Township.

Police learned that a male had broken into the restaurant part of the business and stolen a safe, cash and an electronic device. The vehicle was located travelling southbound on Highway 129 and a traffic stop was initiated.

As a result, Gheorghe BRATU, 34 years of age, from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Break, Enter a Place-Commit Indictable Offence, contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the Criminal Code;
  • Theft Under $5000, contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code;
  • Mischief Under $5000, contrary to section 430(4) of the Criminal Code; and
  • Possession Stolen Property Obtained by Crime -Under $5000.

The accused is schedule to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on May 4, 2017.
