Young women learning the trades


Several young women learned with hands on experience on how to fix a toilet or do drywall Thursday at the Sault Ste. Marie Home Depot.

Home Depot in partnership with the French school board ( 7 schools, 2 School board districts) promoted Women in Trades .The young Women worked with hand tools to build a planter, learn how to replace a toilet and use sharkbite, and do repairs to drywall. In all 42 students and 17 teachers took part in the full day workshop with the help of Home Depot staff.

Female students ranging from grades 9 and 10 from Sault Ste. Marie, Wawa, Dubreuilville , Chapleau, Elliot Lake, Longlac, And Blind River participated in the three distinct workshops.

“At home depot we think it is important to enlighten these young woman’s minds and show them that they can do it.” said Athena Bumbacco a supervisor from Home Depot.
