SPEEDING GETS SUSPENDED DRIVER CAUGHT

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On June 2, 2017 at 7:19 a.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members were on regular patrol duties on Highway 108, south of the City of Elliot Lake.

Police observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was initiated and investigation revealed the driver was also suspended. Andrew Kenneth PIGEON, 35 years of age, from Elliot Lake, was charged with:

  • Driving while suspended, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
  • Speeding, contrary to section 128 of the HTA

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on August 2, 2017.


BREACHING BAIL CONDITIONS RESULTS IN ARREST

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On June 1, 2017, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a bail violations call on Pearson Drive in Elliot Lake.

The complainant, and home owner, reported the male living with her was on conditions not to leave the residence. The male was upset and left the residence regardless of what the homeowner was telling him.

On June 3, 2017, at 6:10 a.m. police arrested the male. Eric Richard CARDINAL, 29 years of age, of Elliot Lake, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Fail to Comply with Recognizance (two counts), contrary to section 145(3) of the Criminal Code (CC)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on June 5, 2017.


CARELESS DRIVER PASSES POLICE VEHICLE

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On May 26, 2017, the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members were on regular patrol duties on Highway 108, South of the City of Elliot Lake.

At approximately 12:10 p.m. police observed a vehicle driving in a careless manner following the police vehicle. The vehicle then attempted to pass the police vehicle as it was passing another motorist.

As a result, a traffic stop was initiated. Investigation also revealed the female driver had no driver’s license. Natasha BRIFFETT, 31 years of age, of Serpent River, was charged with:

  • Careless driving, contrary to section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
  • Drive motor vehicle – no licence, contrary to section 32(1) of the HTA

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on August 2, 2017.


DISTRACTED DRIVER GOES THROUGH STOP SIGN

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On May 25, 2017, the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members were on regular patrol duties on Hillside Drive South in the City of Elliot Lake.

At 8:45 a.m. police observed a vehicle travel through a stop sign and not stop. In addition, the male driver was talking on his cell phone. As a result, a traffic stop was initiated.

Ernie LANDRIAULT, 64 years of age, from Elliot Lake, was charged with:

  • Drive motor vehicle on a highway while using a hand-held wireless communication device, contrary to section 78.1(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
  • Disobey stop sign – fail to stop, contrary to section 136(1)(a) of the HTA
