The huge Summer time concert, Rock n ‘Roar held in Spanish Ontario has been cancelled.
The two day outdoor music festival held each August since 2010 attracted big name bands and performers but declining sales and dropping interest resulted in the concert being cancelled explained event organizer, Paul Grimand.
“We are definitely sad to see it go however, it did bring a lot of positive business to the area.” Grimard said. “A decline in ticket sales over the years reflected the talent that we could acquire and unfortunately this year we were not able to sustain ticket sales, maintain the concert for this year.”
Grimard said that because of declining sales, the event was no longer able to attract the bigger names however other factors such as high electricity prices was also blamed for the annual concert to be cancelled.
“This could be a reflection of the talent that we had for this year in combination with other festivals surrounding the area that are involved with the Canada 150 celebration.”
Over the years, performers such as Hollywood Suite, The Stampeders, April Wine, Loverboy and Dr. Hook were headlined and attracted large crowds at first, the fireworks show part of the two day event was also well received by the community.
Grimard said the local economy will likely be affected by the loss of the rock and roll concert. Along with music fans in the area, many travelled from outside the Algoma district to attend.
The Rock n’ Roar Music Festival was even part of a music video by the Canadian band Helix
