MALE CHARGED WITH ASSAULT

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON)On August 17, 2017, shortly after 8:00 a.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded an assault that occurred in front of a business on Brunswick Walk in the City of Elliot Lake.

Police determined that a female had walked by a business with her leashed pet. A male then walked towards her and sprayed with a watery substance.

As a result, Luciano MONTELEONE, 54 years of age from Elliot Lake was charged with:

  • Assault with a Weapon, contrary to section 267(a) of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on October 3, 2017.

 

BREACH OF PROBATION ORDER – MALE ARRESTED
 
(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On August 16, 2017, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment were on patrol duties in the Town of River.

Shortly before 11:00 a.m., police were patrolling the Huron Beach Road where they came upon a parked vehicle in the beach parking lot with a lone male inside A query was conducted on the male revealing he was bound by a probation order with the condition of, “not attend a public park or swimming area where persons under the age of fourteen are present or can reasonably be expected to be present”.

As a result of the investigation, Lawrence BOUILLON, 53 years of age from Sables-Spanish River Township, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Fail to Comply with Probation Regarding Children, contrary to section 161(14) of the Criminal Code.

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River on August 17, 2017.

 

MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION-MALE CHARGED

(MUNICIPALITY OF HURON SHORES, ON) – On August 16, 2017, shortly before 8:00 p.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment responded to a single vehicle motor vehicle collision roll over on Chiblow Lake Road in the Town of Iron Bridge.

Investigation determined that a westbound vehicle lost control, hit the gravel shoulder and rolled four times causing the male driver and a male passenger to be ejected. The vehicle came to rest on its roof. The two males were transported to hospital with minor injuries and later released.

As a result of the investigation, Dany BOUILLON, 20 years of age from Iron Bridge, Ontario, was issued three provincial offence notices and charged with:

  • Careless Driving, contrary to section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA);
  • Driver Fail to Properly Wear Seatbelt, contrary to section 106(2) of the HTA; and with
  • Fail to Have Insurance Card, contrary to section 3(1) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

 

IRON BRIDGE MAN CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED
 
(MUNICIPALITY OF HURON SHORES, ON) – On August 16, 2017, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting traffic control due to a motor vehicle collision on Chiblow Lake Road in the Town of Iron Bridge.

Shortly before 9:00 p.m., police observed an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) travelling southbound on Chiblow Lake Road and initiated a traffic stop. When speaking to the driver of the ATV, the officer determined the driver had been consuming alcohol.

As a result, John RUTLEDGE, 59 years of age from Iron Bridge, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Driving While Ability Impaired-Motor Vehicle, contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Care or Control Over 80 milligrams, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the CC;
    Off Road Vehicle- Not Properly Insured, contrary to section 17 of the Ontario Regulations 316 of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA);
  • Drive Motor Vehicle – No Licence, contrary to section 32(1) of the HTA;
  • Use Plate not Authorized for Vehicle, contrary to section 12(1)(d) of the HTA; and with
  • Fail to Apply for Permit on Becoming Owner, contrary to section 11(2) of the HTA.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on September 21, 2017

 

MALE’S VEHICLE IMPOUNDED FOR STUNT DRIVING

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On August 15, 2017, shortly before 6:00 p.m., members from the Sault Ste Marie Traffic and Marine Unit of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol duties in the Town of Blind River.

Police observed a vehicle travelling over 100 kilometres per hour in a 50 kilometre per hour zone on Causley Street and a traffic stop was initiated.

As a result, Owaisuddin MOHAMMED, 25 years of age from London, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Race Motor Vehicle – Excessive Speed, contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The driver’s vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused is schedule to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on November 29, 2017.

 

IMPAIRED DRIVER FORCES ONCOMING VEHICLE OFF HIGHWAY

(JOCELYN TOWNSHIP, ON) – On August 12, 2017, shortly after 5:30 p.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police responded to traffic complaint involving an impaired driver on 10th Side Road in Jocelyn Township.

Investigation determined a southbound pickup truck with a lone driver entered the northbound lane on the 10th Side Road and forced a northbound vehicle off the highway. The complainant and the driver of the pickup had pulled over on 10th Side Road.

When speaking to the male driver of the pickup, the officer determined the driver had been consuming alcohol. Further investigation determined the male was a suspended driver.

As a result, John ATKINS, 52 years of age from Jocelyn Township, Ontario was charged with:

  • Driving While Ability Impaired-Motor Vehicle, contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Driving with More than 80 milligrams of Alcohol in Blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the CC; and with
  • Drive While Suspended, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused is schedule to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on October 5, 2017.

 

MALE CHARGED WITH ASSAULT

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On August 12, 2017, shortly before 11:00 a.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded a disturbance at a residence on Fox Drive in the City of Elliot Lake.

Investigation determined that two males were arguing and one male physically assaulted the other male.

As a result, Mihalj GEMES, 54 years of age from Elliot Lake, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Assault, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code.

The accused is schedule to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on October 3, 2017.
