DOMESTIC ASSAULT – MALE CHARGED

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On September 2, 2017, shortly after 6:00 p.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a domestic dispute at a residence on Youngfox Drive in the Town of Blind River.

A married couple had been indulging in alcohol and an argument ensued. The argument escalated to where the female was physically assaulted. As an officer was dealing with the male, he became assaultive towards police.

As a result of the investigation, a 69 year old male was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault-Spousal, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC); and with
  • Assault Peace Officer, contrary to section 270(1)(a0 of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on October 5, 2017.

 

DRIVER AND PASSENGER CHARGED

(BLIND RIVER, ON)- On September 4, 2017, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol on Causley Street in the Town of Blind River.

Shortly after 1:30 p.m., police observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed and initiated a traffic stop. Investigation determined the vehicle was not insured.

As a result of the investigation, the male driver Olatunbosun ADEMOLU, 25 years of age from Scarborough, Ontario, was issued a provincial offence notice and charged with: Speeding, contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act.

The female passenger and owner of the vehicle, Keisha CALLENDER, 27 years of age from Scarborough, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Owner Permit Operation of a Motor Vehicle on a Highway – No Insurance, contrary to section 2(1)(b) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on November 29, 2017.

 

HISTORICAL THREATS MADE TOWARDS EX-WIFE- MALE ARRESTED

(TOWNSHIP OF THE NORTH SHORE, ON) – On August 28, 2017, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) began an investigation into a threat that was made at a local restaurant on Highway 17 in the Village of Spragge.

Investigation determined that on August 25, 2017, while in the restaurant a male had uttered a physical threat to harm his ex-wife referencing a time when they were married.

As the investigation continued, police determined that while the couple were married the male threatened to physically harm her between January and February 2001 while residing at a residence on Highway 108 in the City of Elliot Lake. At the same residence between the years of 1998 and 2000 the victim witnessed cases of animal cruelty towards family pets.

As a result of the investigation, a 51 year old male from Spragge, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm- Spousal (X2), contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC); and with
  • Cruelty to Animals – Unnecessary Pain, Suffering or Injury, contrary to section 445.1(1)(a) of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on October 5, 2017.
