IMPAIRED DRIVER CHARGED WITH SEVERAL OFFENCES

(MUNICIPALITY OF HURON SHORES, ON)- On September 8, 2017, shortly before 4:30 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of a vehicle that was all over the road on Highway 17 east of the Town of Thessalon.

Police located the eastbound vehicle on Highway 17 near the Town of Iron Bridge and initiated a traffic stop. When speaking to the driver of the vehicle the officer determined the driver had been consuming alcohol. As the male was being arrested, officers observed a marihuana paraphernalia and located a small amount of cannabis marihuana resin on the front passenger seat.

As a result of the investigation, Kevin HAMMOND, 53 years of age from Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Driving While Ability Impaired-Motor Vehicle (Alcohol), contrary to section 253(1)(a) Criminal Code (CC);
  • Driving with More Than 80 milligrams of Alcohol in Blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the CC;
  • Possession of a Scheduled II Substance-Cannabis Marihuana-Under 30 grams, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA); and with
  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance- Cannabis Resin-Over 1 gram, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on October 5, 2017.
MOTORCYCLE DRIVER CHARGED WITH STUNT DRIVING

(JOHNSON TOWNSHIP, ON) – On September 10, 2017, members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol on Highway 17 in Johnson Township.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m., police observed an eastbound motorcycle travelling at a speed over 155 kilometres per hour in a 90 kilometres per hour zone and a traffic stop was initiated.

As a result of the investigation, Carlos MENDONCA, 59 years of age from Bruce Mines, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Drive Motor Vehicle-Perform Stunt-Speeding by 50 or more kilometres per hour, contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The driver’s vehicle was impounded and driver’s licence seized for seven days.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste Marie on October 4, 2017.
DOMESTIC DISPUTE-FEMALE CHARGED

(BRUCE MINES, ON)- On September 10, 2017, shortly after 5:30 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence on Prout Street in the Town of Bruce Mines.

Investigation determined that a male and female had been arguing over financial and property issues. As the argument continued the female uttered to destroy a piece of property that male owned before entering into a relationship with the female.

As a result of the investigation, a 40 year old female from Bruce Mines, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Uttering Threats-Property Damage, contrary to section 264.1(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on October 20, 2017.
