Between October 6, 2017 and October 9, 2017, members of the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were out enforcing various laws during Thanksgiving weekend.
The initiative aimed to make Canada’s roads the safest in the world by increasing awareness and compliance on the four behaviours that place drivers, passengers and other road users most at risk: impaired, distracted and aggressive driving as well as failure to wear seat belts.
Motorists in the area were charged with the following offences:
49 speeding charges
1 stunt/racing charge
6 seatbelt violation charges
1 distracted driving charge
9 hazard moving violations
The Manitoulin OPP also responded to 82 calls for service which included 12 Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) initiatives.
The OPP would like to remind motorists to take the necessary precautions to arrive to their destination safely.
