MALE CHARGED AFTER OPP RECEIVE SEVERAL TRAFFIC COMPLAINTS

(SPANISH, ON)- On October 6, 2017, shortly after 6:00 p.m., members from the East Algoma Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment responded to three separate traffic complaints involving a westbound pick-up truck swerving all over the road and passing unsafely on Highway 17 west of the Town of Spanish. The pick-up truck passed another westbound pick-up towing a pontoon boat and causing damage to one of the pontoons.

Shortly after 6:30 p.m., the pick-up truck was located on Highway 108 south of the City of Elliot Lake and a traffic stop was initiated.

As a result of the investigation, Otto PEDERSEN, 73 years of age from Elliot Lake, Ontario was issued two provincial offence notices and charged with:
Fail to Report Accident, contrary to section 199(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA); and with
Unsafe Move-Lane or Shoulder, contrary to section 154(1)(a) of the HTA.

TRAFFIC STOP-MALE CHARGED

(MISSISSAUGA FIRST NATION, ON)- On October 14, 2017, a member from Mississauga First Nation Police Service was on patrol duties on Village Road on the Mississauga First Nation Territory. Shortly after 12:30 p.m., the police officer observed a black pick-up on Village Road and initiated a traffic stop. The officer determined the driver was not licenced.

As a result of the investigation Pierre GAUDREAU, 47 years of age from Elliot Lake, Ontario, was issued a provincial offence notice and charged with: Drive Motor Vehicle-No Licence, contrary to section 32(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

MALE CHARGED AFTER ASSAULTING HIS WIFE

(MISSISSAUGA FIRST NATION, ON)- On October 14, 2017 shortly after 5:00 p.m., Mississauga First Nation Police Service with the assistance of members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence on the Mississauga First Nation Territory. Investigation determined that a married couple had been arguing. As the female was leaving the residence, her husband threw an object striking her in the back of the head.

As a result of the investigation, a 39 year old male from Mississauga First Nation, Ontario was charged with: Assault with a Weapon-Spousal, contrary to section 267(a) of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on December 7, 2017.
