On November 5, 2017, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment were on patrol duties near the junction of Highway 17 and Hopper Road, west of the Town of Thessalon.
Shortly after 2:00 p.m., police observed an eastbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. Police attempted to initiate a traffic stop when the vehicle continued into a private driveway on McFadden Drive. Police observed a male driver known to them exit the driver’s side door of the vehicle. The driver was suspended and was in court a week prior on November 1, 2107 answering to a suspend drive charge.
As a result of the investigation, Travis SIMONS, 39 years of age from Thessalon, Ontario, was charged with: Driving While Under Suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste Marie on December 13, 2017.
