Snow squall warning in effect for:
Agawa – Lake Superior Park
Searchmont – Montreal River Harbour – Batchawana Bay
A slow moving band of very heavy snowfall is affecting areas from north of Montreal River to near Wawa. This band is slowly moving southward. Very high snowfall rates of several cm per hour are likely under this band. Highway 17 will be significantly impacted.
This band is expected to slowly move out of the region this afternoon. Localized amounts in excess of 15 cm are likely.
Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations.
Snow squall warnings are issued when bands of snow form that produce intense accumulating snow or near zero visibilities.
