On Saturday, December 16, 2017 at approximately 4:27 p.m., members of the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were alerted by an off duty OPP officer, of an erratic driver on Sable Street in Sables-Spanish Rivers Township, Ontario.
The off-duty OPP officer observed the suspect vehicle stop, and approached the driver. The officer determined that the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages.
As a result of the police investigation, Anthony RIVERS, age 28, of Sagamok First Nation, Ontario has been charged with:
- Driving While Ability Impaired by Alcohol, contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC), and
- Driving with Over 80 mg of Alcohol in Blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the CC.
The accused’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days with an Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS), and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.
The accused was released on a Promise to Appear (PTA) and is scheduled to appear at the Provincial Court of Justice in Espanola, Ontario on January 22, 2018.
