(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On December 16, 2017 at approximately 10:20 p.m., East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members were on general patrol duties on Esten Drive North and Pearson Drive in the City of Elliot Lake.
Police observed a snowmobile travelling at a high rate of speed on the roadway and fail to stop at a stop sign. A subsequent traffic stop was conducted. Upon speaking to the female driver, a strong odour of alcohol was detected emanating from her breath. As a result, the female was arrested and the snowmobile was towed and impounded.
Diana RIESS, 40 years of age, of Elliot Lake, Ontario, was charged with:
Driving with More than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC), and
Driving while Under Suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA), and
Disobey stop sign – fail to stop, contrary to section 136(1)(a) of the HTA.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on February 6, 2018.
