Chief Jason Gauthier Speaks About Newly Designated Land

New reserve land on traditional territories officially given to the Missanabie Cree First Nation.

Chief of Missanabie Cree First Nation, Jason Gauthier, came into the ONNtv Studio to elaborate on the exciting news for his community. After 112 years of waiting, they have finally been officially granted land by the federal government.

On a personal level, I was so pleased to have the opportunity to speak with Chief Gauthier about this historic moment, as I worked with MCFN last year and learned a lot about the complexities of government negotiations for Indigenous peoples.

While this is a defining moment in MCFN’s history and progression towards a more unified community, Gauthier stated there is still a lot of work to do.
