The annual Laird Fair is gearing up to stage its three-day long, fun filled weekend, which begins Friday August 17th, at the Laird Fairgrounds on Lake George Road, about 25 minutes east of Sault Ste. Marie.
North Shore Agricultural Society (NSAS) organizers promote agriculture yearly at the fair, and this event provides urban residents with opportunities to get a taste of country life in several ways, including through horse shows, animal exhibits and demonstrations.
The Laird Fair kicks off Friday night with gates opening at 6 p.m. with Summer Thunder providing a night of entertainment full of high energy and solid country/country rock music in the Budweiser Bandstand starting at 9pm!
A free bus ride home will be available for concert goers both Friday night and Saturday night at 1:00 a.m.. The bus will travel between Desbarats and Sault Ste. Marie. Check out the Facebook page for more specific information. Saturday, gates open at 8 a.m. and attendees can take in a wide variety of events and activities throughout the day!
The annual Softball Tournament kicks off Saturday with teams of up to 14 players invited to register for this weekend long event by contacting [email protected] More information about this tournament can also be found on the Laird Fair Facebook page. Other exciting events include the Speed Shows, Jumping, Dressage Events, Tractor Pulls, Poultry & Rabbit Competitions, indoor exhibits and various activities for the kids including inflatables, Cindy Cook & Friends, water activities, Pet Show, Teddy Bear Parade and a bubble station to name just a few.
In addition to all of the events already happening, the Laird Fair is proud to kick off the afternoon with Lawnmower Racing! This exciting new addition to the Laird Fair is open to the public to participate in for $10, with 7 different classes to participate in. Saturday evening entertainment will be provided by The Cloud Bandits, Bar River’s No.1 rock band for over 19 years, set to light it up all night long! Activities continue Sunday with several brand new activities for individuals to participate in and/or observe including Science North for the kids and an ATV pull!
Sunday’s activities also feature the return of the Laird Fair Extreme Ranch Horse Competition, continuation of the Softball Tournament, Pleasure Events, a heavy horse pull, an ATV pull, and more fun activities for the kids. A variety of outdoor vendors will be on-site all weekend long serving up delicious goodies, as well as showcasing their unique products for all to see. Camping is available for the weekend, for those wanting to stay on the grounds in either a tent or a trailer.
Admission for the weekend is $5/day or $10 for a weekend pass; kids under 12 will be admitted for $2 or with a canned good that will be donated to a local food bank. About Laird Fair The annual Laird Fair has been a tradition in Laird Township since the 1880s.
