(LITTLE CURRENT, ON) – Officers from the Manitoulin-Espanola Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) worked hard to keep the roads and waterways safe over the Labour Day long weekend. From Friday August 31, 2018 to Monday September 3, 2018 officers participated in the weekend traffic initiative throughout the Manitoulin-Espanola area.
- 62 Speeding Charges.
- Three Excessive Speed Charges.
- Seven Seatbelt Charges.
- One Distracted Driving Charge.
- Two Careless Driving Charges.
- One Impaired Driving Charge.
OPP officers participated in several hours of Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) checks and marine patrols. In addition, OPP officers responded to 116 calls for service. During this timeframe, there were no fatalities on the highways, waterways and trails in the Manitoulin-Espanola OPP Detachment area.
