(ASSIGINACK TWP, ON) – On Wednesday, September 26, 2018 officers from the Manitoulin-Espanola Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) checks on Highway 6 in Assiginack Township, Ontario.

At approximately 11:08 p.m., officers checked a vehicle and determined that the driver was prohibited from operating a vehicle. Further investigation revealed that there were controlled drugs inside the vehicle. Officers seized a quantity of suspected methamphetamine.

As a result, Geraldine TRUDEAU, age 29, of Wikwemikong First Nation, Ontario has been charged with:

Driving While Disqualified – court order, contrary to section 259(4) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC);
Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA); and with
Driving While Under Suspension – two counts, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).
The accused is scheduled to appear at the Provincial Court of Justice in Gore Bay, Ontario on November 14, 2018.

(ASSIGINACK TWP, ON) – On Wednesday, September 26, 2018 officers from the Manitoulin-Espanola Detachment of the OPP were continuing their RIDE checks on Highway 6 in Assiginack Township, Ontario.

At approximately 11:27 p.m., officers checked a vehicle and determined that the driver was prohibited from operating a vehicle. The driver was arrested and his vehicle was impounded for 45 days.

As a result of the investigation, Matthew PITAWANAKWAT, age 44, of Wikwemikong First Nation, Ontario has been charged with:

Driving While Disqualified – court order, contrary to section 259(4) of the Criminal Code (CC).

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Provincial Court of Justice in Gore Bay, Ontario on November 14, 2018.
