Search for Hairdresser Leads to Charges

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On October 22, 2018 at 8:10 p.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members were on regular patrol duties on Ontario Avenue in the City of Elliot Lake, Ontario.

Police observed a vehicle parked in the middle of the street on Ontario Avenue. As police approached the vehicle, it crossed the centre line and continued directly towards the police vehicle.

The officer activated the emergency lights and the female driver eventually stopped, nearly hitting the cruiser.

Police spoke to the female driver who said she was looking for a hair dresser.

As a result, a traffic stop was conducted.

Deborah MILNE, 69 years of age, of Elliot Lake, Ontario was charged with:

  • Careless driving, contrary to section 130(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

 

NUMEROUS OFFENCES FOR LOCAL MALE DRIVER

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On October 6, 2018 at approximately 11:08 p.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members were on regular patrol duties on Highway 108, in the City of Elliot Lake, Ontario.

Police observed a vehicle with only one Ontario license plate. A subsequent traffic stop was conducted. Investigation revealed that the validation permit was also expired.

Keith GOFENKO, 47 years of age, from Elliot Lake, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Drive motor vehicle, fail to display two plates, contrary to section 7(1)(b)(i) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA), and
  • Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit, contrary to section 7(1)(a) of the HTA.

 

SPEEDING DRIVER LANDS NUMEROUS CHARGES

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On October 13, 2018 at 3:22 p.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members were on regular patrol duties on Highway 108, in the City of Elliot Lake, Ontario.

Police observed a vehicle travelling in excess of the posted speed limit. This observation was confirmed by radar and a subsequent traffic stop was conducted. Investigation also revealed that the male driver’s license was suspended and the vehicle was not insured. As a result, the driver was charged and the vehicle was towed.

William MCDONALD, 44 years of age, from Sudbury, Ontario was charged with:

  • Operate motor vehicle on a highway without insurance, contrary to section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA),
  • Driving while under suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA),
  • Speeding (1 – 49km/hr) over the posted limit, contrary to section 128 of the HTA.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on December 5, 2018.
