Man Charged for Carrying a Baton

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On October 31, 2018, at approximately 9:40 p.m. members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for service on Mississauga Avenue in the City of Elliot Lake, Ontario.

Police located numerous suspicious persons on a Secondary School property. When police spoke to a male, he proceeded to empty his pockets in search for his identification. When doing so, a collapsible baton fell onto the ground. The male was subsequently arrested for possessing a prohibited weapon.

Kenneth GOFENKO, 26 years of age, from Elliot Lake, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Unauthorized Possession of Weapon, contrary to section 91(2) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, contrary to section 88 of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court in Elliot Lake, Ontario on December 4, 2018.
