(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On November 11, 2018 at approximately 1:30 a.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members were conducting general patrol duties on Pearson Drive in the City of Elliot Lake, Ontario.
A pick-up truck was observed driving in a suspicious manner and a subsequent traffic stop was conducted. Police spoke to the male driver and a strong odour alcoholic beverage was detected emanating from his breath. As the driver was looking for his identification and vehicle documents, police observed a rifle on the centre seat. Police had the driver immediately exit the vehicle. Also inside the vehicle were numerous open alcohol cans and various caliber ammunition. The male was subsequently arrested, his driver’s license suspended and the vehicle was towed and impounded.
Eric PICHETTE, 39 years of age, from Elliot Lake, Ontario was charged with:
- Driving with More than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC),
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm, contrary to section 92(1) of the CC,
- Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition, contrary to section 92(2) of the CC,
- Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor, contrary to section 32(1) of the Liquor License Act (LLA).
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake, Ontario on December 4, 2018.
